Our Journey

1984-1995

G&R Trenching was started in 1984 by brothers Richard Gerard and Gilbert Boily in Northern Alberta as a limited partnership.

With the purchase of a hydraulic punching machine, the brothers began working with underground product installation.

The work included water and sewer installation, natural gas, and oilfield product

1984-1995

1996-2002

With advances in underground utility installation equipment G&R purchased their first directional drill in 1996 and Richard Adrian Boily (Richard Gerard’s eldest son) became an integral part of directional drilling operations.

Throughout these years the other Boily children Michelle and Jeffrey also became fully integrated in the business operations.

1996-2002

2002-2005

In 2002 G&R engaged in their first telecommunication project installing Bell Alberta Supernet with Dixon Networks with our drilling teams bringing telecommunication infrastructure to 39 municipalities in Northern Alberta.

In 2003 due to the continued growth of the organization the company incorporated and became J& R Horizontal Drilling with Burbank Directional Drilling becoming a subsidiary in 2004.  Primary ownership was transferred to Judy and Richard Boily.

In 2005 the company was presented with an opportunity to become a prime contractor for additional telecommunication and utility clients and shifted focus from Oil and Gas to residential utility installations.

2002-2005

2005-2023

The company growth continued throughout these years with the Boily children and their spouses stepping into integral roles in business operations and expansion of services.

With strategic partnerships and acquisitions throughout the years, the organization expanded its scope of services to include Hydrovac services, technical services, design services, and locating/damage prevention services allowing Burbank to provide turnkey solutions for existing and new clients with the highest quality and safety standards.

In addition to the expansion of services, geographical expansion has allowed Burbank to provide services in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.

2005-2023

2024

2024 marks 40 years in utility installation for Burbank.

It is also the year we lost the heart of our Directional Drilling operations Richard Adrian Boily.

Richard lost his 8-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer on February 19, 2024.

As we move forward, we continue to uphold the family values and level of excellence that Richard instilled in our organization. In doing so we will carry on his memory and legacy into the future as we continue the growth he envisioned.
